Energy Transition Theater: Installing Charging Infrastructure - Navigating Your Utility
Wednesday, April 17, 2024
11:30 AM – 11:55 AM ET
Location: Energy Transition Theater, Georgia Ballroom, Level 3
Utility service connections and timelines are often a very confusing and time consuming part of the charging equipment installation process. The Black & Veatch team has experience building and installing over thirty thousand charging dispensers across the country. Utility programs, incentives, rates, capacity availability, and line extension rules all impact a fleet/charge point operators electrification strategy and roadmap. Preconstruction services require a knowledge of the level of service, permitting, and utility design standards. Also, understanding the utility tariff can potentially save fleets a lot of money in electricity costs. There may be opportunities to change your level of service to primary voltage or even transmission level service to greatly reduce costs.
As fleets move into the application process there are a large list of data required. The team will highlight the process to get the application complete including designs, load, and metering systems.
Fleets and operators with fleets in multiple utilities will need to navigate several processes. The team will review what aspects are usually required across jurisdiction and highlight those items that are different.
We will then review overall best practices for utility coordination highlighting the expected timeline for design and construction of EV Charging equipment highlighting the common points of connection with the utility.
